Akita Inu's originated in Japan, the word "inu" in Japanese means "dog". The Akita is a very powerful animal with a massive chest and head. Their coat is coarse, and the Akita moults two or three times a year during which time owners may find it difficult to have him inside the house. The Akita thrives on human companionship, but they will stand to defend its family whenever a threatening stranger or animal makes him wary. Akitas can adapt to many different situations and can be rather good watchdogs (they dont usually bark unless there's a good reason) and companions. They require socialization as puppies, and obedience training is important as they are dominant dogs and tend to be aggressive towards other dogs, especially of the same sex.
