The Alaskan Malamute is a large, strong Arctic dog with a thick, coarse double coat, they are well built, with a solid body. Their feet are furry and have tough pads. They have erect ears and small, dark, almond shaped eyes. The eyes are never blue and they look like those of a wolf. Malamute's are extremely loyal and intelligent, they are sweet and most affectionate toward their masters. They are great with children who are old enough to play with them safely. Generally they mature into a dignified and mellow adult dog. Very friendly and therefore are not suitable as a guard dog. Without attention, these dogs may become very destructive. Malamutes need a reasonable amount of exercise. But be careful not to over due it in warm weather, as they have a very large coat of fur.
