Basenji are small, unusual, athletic dogs. The Basenji is affectionate, demanding and energetic. They love to play and they make good pets, as long as they are handled often from an early age. They are very intelligent dogs. They like to chew, so give them lots of toys to play with. The basenji likes to climb. They are used as a guide in the forests of Africa, to warn people of approaching dangerous animals. Basenji's do not bark, but they are not silent and make many different noises, including yodeling and growling.
